My Body is Rarely Every My Own A Solo Exhibit by Alletta In the exhibit “My Body is Rarely Ever My Own”, the work moves through stages and cycles of female experience. Paintings, acrylic on canvas, showcase surreal depictions of moments rooted in reality. Self representations littered throughout, leaving this body of work deeply personal. It was something my mother once shared with me, “my body is rarely ever my own” she stated. This being in relation to her chronic pain, I started to unravel this deep misalignment of ourselves to our bodies. These works are all of the ways my body is rarely ever my own. This feeling that is strangling femaleness, an absence of autonomy. Surreal aspects are used to transcend the line between the physical, the emotional, and the spiritual. Showcasing all three as a simultaneous experience.
